Hall (Prince) is born in Bridgetown, Barbados.
September 12, 1748
(ca.) The son of an Englishman and a free mulatto woman of French descent, Prince Hall emigrates to Boston and becomes an indentured servant to tanner and leather merchant William Hall. It is thought that he marries Frances Ritchery in 1763, and is freed shortly before the Boston Massacre in 1770. Hall subsequently becomes a barber, caterer, and peddler, before opening his own shop. He becomes a Mason in 1775,* possibly serves in the Revolutionary War, and subsequently leads the effort to provide admit African-American children to the Boston public schools. He dies on November 4, 1807 (12/4 12/11) and is buried at Copp’s Hill Burying Ground.
